Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Injections

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present within healthy joint fluid and contributes to lubrication and shock absorption.

Injectable hyaluronic acid products may be used for certain joint or soft-tissue conditions to help reduce pain and improve function.

View Laser offers several HA-based treatment options, including Monovisc®, Cingal®, Synolis and SportVis™. Each has different indications and is selected according to the condition being treated.

Synolis®

Synolis® is a Swiss-made injectable joint treatment that combines hyaluronic acid (HA) with sorbitol for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis-related joint pain. The hyaluronic acid helps supplement the joint’s natural synovial fluid, supporting lubrication and shock absorption, while sorbitol helps protect the HA from degradation.

Synolis® may be used to help reduce joint pain and improve mobility in appropriate patients with osteoarthritis following an individual assessment with Dr. Martin Ray.

Cost: $600

Monovisc®

Monovisc® is a hyaluronic acid viscosupplement that may be injected into an affected joint to help manage pain associated with osteoarthritis in appropriate patients.

Cost: $550

Cingal®

Cingal® combines hyaluronic acid with a corticosteroid in a single injection. It is used for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee in appropriate patients.

The corticosteroid component is intended to provide more rapid anti-inflammatory pain relief, while the hyaluronic acid component provides viscosupplementation within the joint.

Cost: $600

SportVis™

SportVis™ is a hyaluronic acid treatment specifically designed for certain soft-tissue injuries. It is injected around the affected tendon or ligament rather than used as a traditional joint viscosupplement.

It may be used for specific conditions including chronic tennis elbow and certain ankle sprains following an individual assessment.

Cost: $300

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) uses a concentrated portion of your own blood containing platelets and naturally occurring growth factors involved in tissue repair and healing.

A small amount of blood is drawn and processed using a centrifuge to prepare the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP can then be injected into a targeted musculoskeletal area.

PRP may be considered as part of an individualized treatment plan for certain tendon, ligament, joint or cartilage-related conditions.

The evidence supporting PRP varies depending on the condition being treated, and PRP is not appropriate for every musculoskeletal injury. Dr. Ray will assess your diagnosis, medical history and previous treatments before determining whether PRP may be appropriate.

Cost: $995

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is another autologous treatment prepared from a patient’s own blood.

PRF contains platelets within a fibrin matrix and may be used as part of an individualized treatment approach for certain musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

PRF preparation and characteristics differ from PRP, and the decision to use PRP, PRF or another injection treatment depends on the tissue being treated, your diagnosis and Dr. Ray’s assessment.

Cost: $995

Cortisone Injections

Corticosteroid injections may be used to reduce inflammation and provide temporary pain relief for certain musculoskeletal and joint conditions.

Depending on the condition, a corticosteroid may be injected into or around an affected joint or other appropriate treatment area.

Cortisone is not appropriate for every injury or condition, and the potential benefits and risks can vary considerably depending on the tissue being treated. Dr. Ray will assess your condition and discuss whether a corticosteroid injection or another treatment option is appropriate. Recent clinical literature and leading experts are moving away from cortisone in favour of regenerative treatments using HA, PRP, PRF and stem cells.

Cost: $250

Custom Knee Bracing

Custom knee bracing may be recommended to provide additional stability, support or unloading for certain acute and chronic knee conditions.

View Laser offers Breg custom knee braces, which may be considered for conditions including certain ligament injuries and knee osteoarthritis.

The appropriate brace depends on your diagnosis, anatomy, activity level and functional needs. Dr. Ray will assess your knee and recommend bracing when appropriate as part of your treatment or return-to-activity plan.

Custom Bracing: $1,600

Sports medicine assessment and treatment may be appropriate for concerns including:

  • Sports and activity-related injuries
  • Joint pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tendon injuries and tendinopathy
  • Ligament injuries and sprains
  • Certain muscle injuries
  • Knee pain and instability
  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Return-to-sport or activity concerns
  • Scar tissue

The appropriate treatment depends on an accurate diagnosis. Imaging or additional investigation may be recommended when required before proceeding with an injection or other treatment.

Some extended health insurance plans may provide coverage for certain sports medicine treatments, injectable products or custom bracing.

Coverage varies significantly between insurers and individual plans. Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly before treatment to determine eligibility and reimbursement requirements.

Stem cell therapies are not offered as a routine sports medicine treatment at View Laser. In Canada, stem cell-based therapies must meet Health Canada regulatory requirements, and unapproved stem cell treatments should not be marketed or provided as established therapies.

Dr. Ray can discuss evidence-based and appropriately regulated treatment options for your condition during your consultation.

Individual outcomes vary. Sports medicine treatment recommendations are based on an individual medical assessment, diagnosis, medical history and available clinical evidence. No specific treatment or outcome can be guaranteed. Potential risks, benefits and alternatives will be reviewed before treatment.
