Dermaplaning may help improve the appearance and feel of:
- Dry or rough surface texture
- Dull-looking skin
- Buildup of dead surface skin cells
- Fine vellus facial hair
- Uneven-looking skin texture
It may also be incorporated into other facial treatments when appropriate.
During dermaplaning, your aesthetician gently passes a sterile surgical blade across the surface of the skin at a controlled angle. This carefully removes accumulated dead skin cells and fine vellus hair without affecting the structure of the hair follicle.
The treatment creates an immediately smoother-feeling skin surface and can help makeup and skincare apply more evenly.
Dermaplaning is often paired with treatments such as HydraFacial or customized medical-grade skincare for a more comprehensive facial treatment.
Let your aesthetician know about any active breakouts, irritation, skin conditions, medications or prescription skincare products before your appointment.
Avoid aggressive exfoliation or irritating skincare immediately before treatment. Dermaplaning may need to be postponed if the skin is actively inflamed, irritated, sunburned or has open lesions.
Keep your skincare gentle following dermaplaning and avoid aggressive exfoliants or potentially irritating active ingredients until your skin has settled.
Because freshly exfoliated skin may be more sensitive to sun exposure, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is particularly important following treatment. Your aesthetician will recommend when to resume your regular skincare routine.
