CO₂ Laser

CO₂ laser resurfacing is an ablative fractional laser treatment used for more significant skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. The treatment creates precise microscopic areas of controlled injury in the skin, initiating a healing response and stimulating collagen remodeling. At View Laser in Delta and Tsawwassen, Dr. Martin Ray customizes CO₂ laser treatments based on your skin, treatment area and individual concerns.

  • COST

Treatment starts at $1,800. Treatment cost varies depending on the area being treated and the treatment plan recommended. Your personalized treatment and associated costs will be reviewed during your consultation with Dr. Ray. Not covered by MSP.

  • RECOVERY

CO₂ laser resurfacing involves significant downtime compared with non-ablative laser treatments. Redness, swelling, sensitivity, crusting and peeling are expected during the initial healing period.

Skin typically begins healing over approximately 7 to 10 days, although redness or pinkness may persist for several weeks. Recovery varies depending on treatment intensity, treatment area and individual healing response. A pre- and post-skincare kit is required for this treatment.

  • NUMBER OF TREATMENTS

For many patients, significant resurfacing can be performed in a single treatment. Depending on the concern, treatment depth and desired outcome, additional treatments may be recommended.

Results develop gradually as the skin heals and collagen remodeling takes place over the following months.

CO₂ laser resurfacing may be used to improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Crepey skin
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Atrophic acne scars
  • Certain surgical or traumatic scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Areas of uneven pigmentation
  • Skin laxity

Common treatment areas include the face and skin around the eyes and mouth. Other areas may be considered following an individual assessment with Dr. Ray.

View Laser uses the SmartXide DOT fractional CO₂ laser to deliver controlled columns of laser energy into the skin while leaving surrounding areas untreated to support the healing process.

As the treated skin heals, the body’s natural repair response promotes new tissue formation and collagen remodeling. This process can improve skin texture, firmness and the appearance of certain lines and scars over time.

CO₂ laser resurfacing is highly customizable. Dr. Ray adjusts the treatment according to your skin characteristics, treatment area, concerns and desired degree of correction.

Treatment itself typically takes approximately 45 to 90 minutes depending on the area. Patients generally arrive in advance for topical numbing and preparation and may remain at the clinic following treatment for initial recovery. A responsible adult will be required to drive you home.

CO₂ laser requires careful preparation. Before treatment, Dr. Ray will review your medical history, medications, skincare, previous procedures and history of cold sores, abnormal scarring or pigmentation changes.

Certain medications and active skincare products may need to be temporarily discontinued. Sun exposure and tanning should be avoided before treatment.

You will receive individualized preparation instructions before your procedure. Follow these carefully, as appropriate pre-treatment care is an important part of reducing risk and supporting healing.

Following CO₂ resurfacing, the skin requires careful wound care while it heals. Redness, swelling, warmth, sensitivity, crusting and peeling are expected during the initial recovery period.

Use only the post-treatment skincare recommended by View Laser and avoid picking, rubbing or prematurely removing peeling or crusting skin. Sun exposure should be strictly minimized, with appropriate sun protection used as directed once the skin has healed sufficiently.

Exercise, heat, swimming, active skincare products and makeup may need to be avoided temporarily. Dr. Ray and the View Laser team will provide detailed instructions based on the depth and area of your treatment.

Contact the clinic promptly if you experience unexpected or worsening symptoms during recovery.
