Belkyra
Belkyra® is a prescription injectable treatment used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fullness beneath the chin in adults. The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, works by disrupting targeted fat cells in the treatment area. Belkyra® treatments at View Laser in Delta and Tsawwassen are provided following an individual assessment with Dr. Martin Ray.
Belkyra® is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness, commonly referred to as a double chin, in adults.
Suitability is assessed individually, as fullness beneath the chin can have different causes and not every patient is an appropriate candidate for treatment.
Belkyra® contains deoxycholic acid, a substance naturally present in the body that helps break down dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, it disrupts the membranes of targeted fat cells. The cellular contents are then cleared through the body’s natural processes.
Before treatment, Dr. Ray assesses the area beneath the chin, including the amount and distribution of fat and the surrounding anatomy. A series of small injections is then carefully placed within the treatment area according to your individualized treatment plan.
Treatment sessions are generally brief, although appointment time varies depending on the individual and treatment area.
Before your Belkyra® treatment, let Dr. Ray know about your medical history, medications and supplements, previous procedures involving the face, neck or chin, and any difficulty swallowing or bleeding concerns. You should also mention if you are pregnant, may be pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Treatment should not be performed when an infection is present in the treatment area. Dr. Ray will provide any additional instructions based on your individual assessment.
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, firmness or numbness can occur following treatment. Avoid rubbing, pressing or massaging the treatment area unless specifically instructed to do so.
Dr. Ray will provide personalized aftercare instructions and advise you about when to contact the clinic if you experience unexpected or persistent symptoms.
