MIGRAINES
Migraine headaches can be severely debilitating, with significant social, economic, mental, and physical health consequences. Typical signs of a migraine may or may not start with an aura or neurological abnormality such as facial numbness or visual changes. Moderate to severe headaches can be throbbing or steady in nature, on one or both sides of the head. Migraines may cause nausea, vomiting, and light or sound sensitivities as well.
Symptoms can vary dramatically from person to person; however, symptoms in individuals generally remain consistent. Migraines are often misdiagnosed and poorly managed. Unfortunately patients may be taking expensive medications that cause unwanted side effects or are potentially harmful or addictive.
Migraines are often improved by taking triptan medications at the early onset. Botox® is presently considered a third-line treatment for migraines and, as such, is underutilized. As this is a medical procedure, you may be covered by your extended health insurance; the View Laser team is experienced and willing to assist patients with this process.
Affected areas:
Head, scalp, temples, face, and eyes.
Botox® Therapeutic is not covered under the provincial health care plan. Private insurance may provide full or partial coverage. We recommend that patients inquire with their insurance about coverage prior to a consultation with Dr. Ray. Forms required to qualify for third-party coverage can be completed by your family doctor. Dr. Ray can complete necessary paperwork at a fee not covered under the medical plan; this fee will vary depending on application complexity. Please contact our office for more information.
